Basement Waterproofing Process

Assessment

A thorough assessment of the basement is conducted to identify the source and extent of water intrusion. This includes inspecting walls, floors, and potential entry points.

Preparation

Before any work begins, the basement is prepared by removing any items that may obstruct the waterproofing process. It's essential to create a clear and accessible workspace.

Interior Drainage System Installation

One common approach involves installing an interior drainage system along the perimeter of the basement. This system consists of a drainage channel that collects water and directs it away from the foundation.

Sump Pump Installation

A sump pump is often installed as part of the interior waterproofing system. The collected water from the drainage system is pumped out and away from the foundation to prevent flooding.

Weep Hole Installation

Weep holes may be drilled into basement walls to allow water to drain out. Water from the weep holes will be funneled into the interior drainage system. These holes provide an additional outlet for water and contribute to ventilation.

Vapor Barrier Installation

In some cases, a vapor barrier or waterproofing membrane is applied to the interior walls. This barrier prevents moisture from passing through the walls, reducing the risk of dampness and mold growth.

French Drain Installation (if needed)
